AUCA students from the environmental chemistry class followed a new chemical training at AUCA

April 15, 2015

Last week, on Thursday, AUCA students from the environmental chemistry class followed a chemical training. Their tasks were to analyze water samples, and determine their colorimetric scale and concentration ofchloride and metalions. All students gotcorrect results, an evidence of students' better understanding theory of environmental chemistry courseandgood practicesfor chemicalcalculations in previous classes.

“Since our first training was successful,” said Zheenbek Kulenbekov, Chair of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development program (EM&SD) at AUCA, “we are planning a visit to the Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ichthyology at theInstitute of Biology and Pedology of the Kyrgyz National Academy of Sciences on Tuesday, 14th of April. Students will be learning how to carry out bioindication in practice.Bioindication is a method to assess changes in organisms or ecosystems induced by anthropogenic environmental influences. The results obtained can be used to estimate the pollution load in environment components, e.g. soil, air or water”

Additionally,EM&SD Program isplanning a field trip the followingTuesday, 21th of April, to the Big Chui Canal to use new equipmentto carry out somein situmeasurements. Students will learn how to perform properin situanalysis of water quality of the Big Chui Canal.
