The Fulbright Association of Kyrgyzstan organizes assistance to the people of Kyrgyzstan

As of July 7th of 2020, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kyrgyzstan has reached 8, 141 while the death toll has totaled 99 and keeps growing. This number speaks volumes of the current state of the national healthcare system, its technical lag and lack of necessary equipment and human resources, as well as about limited resources of Government to deal with rapidly unfolding national catastrophe alone. To say more, during these four months of national epidemic 1,065 healthcare workers can contracted COVID-19 and few have already passed away. The heroes of today have sacrificed their lives to fulfill the oath of Hippocrates and save the lives of fellow citizens. The Government has already announced a critical shortage of resources for treating patients with coronavirus pneumonia and has encouraged people to contribute to the fight with COVID-19 in whatever way possible.听

Given the current state of national epidemic and lack of critical supplies to treat thousands of people, the Association of Fulbrighters of Kyrgyzstan is reaching out to all alumni of Department of State programs in Kyrgyzstan and abroad and proposing that we donate funds to support our healthcare workers who are working extremely hard to combat COVID-19 and save our beloved relatives, neighbors, friends, and colleagues.听

There are currently over 7,000 alumni of Department of State Programs, those are Fulbright, Muskie, Humphrey, FLEX, UGRAD, and other programs. We are many and we can make a difference and shoulder up our healthcare workers. If hypothetically, even 1,000 of alumni donate 1,000 KGS, we will accumulate one million KGS that will be immediately put in work to support the fight with the outbreak. For this money, we will be capable of purchasing 16 oxygen concentrators at 34,000 KGS and the Association will donate them to our hospitals. The plan is to equip the main hospital of each of 7 provinces of Kyrgyzstan with two concentrators and to donate the remaining two to the hospitals in Bishkek.听 All expenses will be well documented and reported by our accountant.
